Federal Convention.

(Per Press Association) Sydney, Sept. 18. In Committee, the Convention resumed the discussion on the constitu* tion of the Senate. Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and West Australia decided that the method of electing Senators should be left to the local Parliament to determine. The Bill pro* vides that the Senators should be elected by the people of a State as an electorate. The evening sitting was mainly occupied in discussing the amendments of New South Wales and Victoria, providing that there should be one represent- ! ative of tke popular chamber of every 80,000. The proposal was rejected by nine rotes. The hour was too late to go on with the financial clanses, which will come on to-morrow after the Treasurers' Committee report.
