Slow and Fast Milking. In his report upon a test of slow and fast milking carried oat at the Wisconsin Experiment Station, Professor Babeoek says: — "The effect upon tbe yield was not marked, this being about the same whether the cows were milked fast or slow ; tba variations being no more than might be expected if tbe cows bad been milked in (he same way for the whole time. Tbe effect upo« tbe quality of the milk was more marked, there being in every case richer milk produced when the oows were milked fast than when they were milked slow. The effect was the moil marked with tbe cows giving the most milk. The cows which were the least susceptible to tbesti changes were those far advanced in the period of lactation and giving but little milk when the trial was made. Calculated upon the fat yield, tbe gain of fast milking averaged, for the whole lot of cows, 1173 per cent." A Rich Milk Record. Tbe record for rich milk is held in Victoria by the Willung Creamery in South Gippaland, with 171 bof cjilk to lib of butter. The Cobden Factory comes next with lib of butter from 181 bof milk. To make these records careful selection and culling to tbe dairy hards have been practised.
