Th« return from tbe Pitland Flat dredge for the week was 30oz 4dwt and for the Upper Waipori dredge 13o* 19dwt. Chribtchurch, Sept. 13. After a conference with members of tbe various political associations held tonight, Mr W, W. Tanner, M.H.R., promised to take charge of a Bill in tbe House, extending the municipal franchise to adults. The City Conncil has resolved to put the Jubilee dock tower in hand. It will probably cost £950. Westport, Sept. 12. Tbe coal export for the week ended 11th was 4259 tons 15cwt, of which the Westport Coal Company shipped 3669 tons 9cwt end the Cardiff Company, 590 tons 2cwt. Palmerston N., This Day. Sergt.- Major Scaulon, the officer in charge of the Palmerston police station, died at au early hour tbis morning. Deceased had been ill for several weeks. He had been abont 30 years in tbe force.
