To Stand this Season in the Fe'idino and Eaxgitjkei Distbicts The Thoroughbnd Horse, HANDSOME JACK (Foaled 1890). HANDSOME JACK is a seven von oid. stoatljsbuilt bay horse Mtinding 15 hands 3 inches liißh. As his name indicates, he ia a haudsooif horse, and so fashionably brerl that he is well worthy the attention of breeders Tho stoutest strains of the English and colonial thoroughbred blood ia blended in this horse's pedigree. It would ar* pear almost unnecessary to refer further than to his tabulated pedigree undermentioned, but the family he has de neended from are so rich in winning blood that the owner may be pardoned for jnst mentioning a few facts perhapsnot generally known. Handsome Jack is by St. Leger (the well * known winner > producing sire), whose stock have won in New Zealand since the seison 1895»6 eighty one races, valued at £21,672. Sadiant, who nerer raced, is by that stoutly»brecl sire Robinson Crusoe, whose mures are so highly thought of by Aua tralian breeders, and as Kadiant is from Radiance this makes the ram of Hand* some Jack fnll sister to those fast horses Quadrant and Cruiser (sire of theEangi tikei bred Lorelei). Robinson Crusoe (sire of Radiant) is full brother to that etud gem Onyx (dam of Nordenfftldt), and R'tdinnce (dam of Radiant) is by Fireworks (sire of The Mutr, who is sire of tbe Grand National Steeplechase winner, Muti.ty, and and tho Grand National Hurdle Race winner, Dummy, last year), wuile Sunshine (dam of Radiance), is also dam of Suuti-e, a very successful stallion in Few South Wale-. A glance at St. Hippo's pedigree, who is , considered by gord judges to be one of , the best horses seen in New Zealand of late years, wi 1 show that Hand*cmf ! Jacz has really a belter pedinn-e, as he , sbows the valuable stmin of Mnribvrnong blood, which is absent from St. Hippo's pedigree. ' '(iarcia T> i I ,',> ir i. ;Ili > v Mi.ldk-ion "K il.Ku:.liliKlil j-j-orch Unfortunately, Handsome Jack met with an nccidant while ih trailing as k two-year o!d and could not be raced, but, previous to that, he w ß a high'y thouglit of and proved to be a colt of considerable promise Handsome Jack's full brother, Lustre, won the Dunedin Selhntj Race, 100 soys, also the Dunedin Federal Stakes of 200 BOVB, 6 furlongs, 7 0, m 118. beating Saracen, Bay Bell, Kulniae, Pique, and Whakawatea. Breeders must come to the conclusion, after perusing the above particulars, that they are fortunate in having co highly a bred young horse, and one so closely rehted to all the best and most valuable strains of blood to be found in Austral* a si a, Handsome Jack will be limited to n number of mar. j s. Thoroughbreds 5 guineas, and half breds at a reasonable reductiou. Inspection of thii son of St. Lcgor is invited. Splendid grazing at my farm at Kiwitea, near Feildinu, for one month, after that time Is 6d per week will be charged. All care will be taken wilh mares, especially thoroughbred mares and their ft als, for which I have special paddocks, but no responsibility will be accepted. Mares by train will bo met at Feilding Railway Station, after arrangements are made. St. Leger. the sire of Handsome Jack, is standing this season at Auckland, nt a fee of 50 guineas, and is limited to 15 mares. For further particulars apply to W. F.
