The charge against Henlcys (man and wife) for ill-treating a boy was adjourned till next s-essions to enable the birth certificate to be obtained from England. It is contended the boy is over 14, the age fixed by the Act under which the prosecution was taken. In the Livorce Court a decree nisi was granted in Burne v. Burne, husband's petition. Auckland, Sept. 4. Whitiora, a fighting chief at the Rangiriri engagetmmt, is dead. The body of Victor Taaker, drowned at Aotea, while flaying on logs in a fresb, has been found. Tbe Bank of Now Zealand shipped 42 boxes of pold to tbo value of £63,000 by tbe Moana. A railws.y platelayer named Edward Lisk, while stoppiog a loaded trolly on tbe line, got bia spiae fractured and was sent to the hospital. Intelligence has been received from England of the death of Mr E. W. Payne tbe Auckland City Treasurer, who was on sick leave. He died after undergoing a surgical operation for an internal complaint. This Day. On Saturday night Mr Thorpe, of Ellerslie, was removing an Akjerney bull, when he was gored under the chin, neck and face ; three ribs were also broken. Mrs Thorpe drove the ball away with a clothes prop. Thorpe's condition is serious. The bull was shot. A cable from A. J. Voguu states be interviewed Mr Seddon in Sydney anent the proposed electric tramway between Tauranga and Rotorua, for which Eng lisb capital is offering if a land grant is obtainable. Tbe Premier said be was favourable to the Bcbeme and to similar works. There would be no difficulty so far as New Zealand is concerned. Timaru, September 4. Excellent rain fell in South Canterbury last night. Light showers continue to-day. Hawera, September 4. A gas service was formally installed here this evening.
