Rangiwahia Notes.

0 [From a Correspondent.! Last Saturday afternoon Bangiwahia presented to those within the beautiful clearing a scene presenting somethirg more than an ephemeral interest. The cold blasts and sombre shadows of winter were to be found only on that baok lane which leads the human mind o'er the past. The sun shone out with all th» warmth of summer, invigorating the nerves of everyone to such an extent as to bring joy to the most dull eyes atd cause the woods to echo with ripples of laughter. The principal attraction on the Recreation Ground was the return match between the juvenile footballers of Apiti and Rangiwahia. I sympathised with those brave little chaps from Apiti who had to face their homes suffering the pangs of a crushing defeat, after having journeyed over that rugged track to Rangiwahia with the hope of gaming another victory for their district. The Rangiwahia boji, from the beginning to tbe end of the game, seemed determined to thoroughly wipe out tbe stain of their defeat in Apiti and show their superiority, •coring 26 points to nil. Frank Bielski, of the winning team, made himself conspicuous by his dashing play, crossing his opponents' goal line time after time. At the conclusion of the game I was reminded of those happj days in other lands through the action of the smiling joung ladies taking up a prominent position on the ground, with their pots of tea and baskets of daintj morsels to satisfy the inner cravings of the wearj players. The more muscular enthusiasts of the manly game were evidently lubouring under the opinion that the football hnd not received the punishment due to it for the afternoon, so forming themselves into teams bearing the titles of the famous reps., New Zealand v. New Soutli Walos, they gave the oval a rather rough time of it for the remainder of the dav. Messrs Bielski and Moffatt. of the local boarding houses, us full-backs to their respective teams, were a tower of help, their kicking anil collaring being a treat to witness. The former was scarcely in form for fast football, still, after a few games, he will, undoubtedly, prove an acquisition to the Ruahine team. I noticed the fine weather brought oufc a few knights of the willow with their cricketing requisites. Although the footballers were deeply interested in the progress of their own game they were, occasionally rudley reminded of the the fact through unintentionally stopping with the back of their head a hard hit ball to off. A meeting of the Ruahine 'Football Club was held in the evening. Mr Ryun, proprietor of the Pemberton Hotel, was unanimously elected to fill the presidency made vacant through Mr Mitchell's departure from the district. The newly fleeted president made a handsome donation to the club's funds. Mr F. Savwell was elected a delegate to the Oroua Football Union. It was resolved to hold a dance in Mr Roscoe's hall on Friday, 10th September, with the object of increasing the funds of the club. I
