(Per Press Association) Calcutta, August 18. A despatch from Peshawar reports that a body of Afridi tribesmen are marching upon Jemtud, a strong fort at the mouth of the Kyber Pass, twelve miles west of Pesbawur, whilst the Orakzais are marching in force upon Kurain Fort, another strategic position at the entrance to Afghanistan from India, 25 miles south west of Jamrud, and npou the Samaua Mountain Range in the North Eastern Afghanistan! crowned by British fortified posts between the Heugu Valley and the river lioosh The Sikh outposts are concentrated at Fort Lockbart to intercept the march of the tribesmen. The wives and children of the officers and men belonging to the regiment have retired to Uangu, midway between Jamrud and Kuram, where the British fort is situated. August 19. Later despatches from the Indian frontier state one hundred Sw&tis were killed in the encounter with the British force, aud the field artillery demoralised them. The mobilisation of the Indian army is working admirably, Kbaibar, Kobat, Kuram, on the frontier, are threatened by rebel tribesmen.
