I A deputation from a meeting held at Capetown to advocate the abolition of the duty on imported meat waited upon Sir James Sievwrigbt, Commissioner of Bail ways and Public Works, and in reply to the representations, Sir James assured tbe deputation that the major- , ity of the population of .the colony did not desire the ' abolition of meat duties, i and be added that if the prices of the i meat were excessive, be would invite the Orange Free State to consent to a ' temporary suspension of the duty. j
