Fatal Fire at New Plymouth.

TWO LIVES LOST.

(Per Press Association) New Plymouth, This Day. Tbe Maturoa Hotel, two miles from New Plymouth, near the breakwater, was destroyed by fire at 5 o'clock this morning. Two of the occupants Wm. Drader, Chief Borer at tbe Petroleum works and Wm. Turner, Captain of the Harbour Board dredge lost their lives. Drader lived for many years at Waitara, and was formerly well known in Nelson. The origin of tbe fire is a mystery. Insurances not yet ascertained. Later.

Tbe landlord, C Hawk, first removed bis wife and five children and then endeavored to rouse his boarders, three in number. His shouts aroused Charles Wiliberley who is engaged at tbe petroleum works and who had an exceedingly narrow escape- Tbe fire had already reached bis room when be woke. He jumped op and made one bound, crashing through the closed window, to the road below, a drop of nearly 20 feet, and escaped witb slight burns and a sprained wrist. Drader and Turner could not be reached, and their charred remains were found in the debris. Turner was reduced to a ciucjer. Frpni their' position the men had apparently made no effort to escape, and probably were suffocated-
