Manchester Road Board.

Tha ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held at their office, Feilding, yesterday. Present — Messrs F. Y. Lethbridge (chairman), D. Thomas, G. S. Rumble, H. J. Booth, G. Wheeler, W. G. Pearce, J. PurkißS Correspondence was received and dealt with as follows : — From clerk Rangitikei County Council, applying for £1 18 a 3d, thii Board's share of Licensing expenses in old district. — Account passed. From H. Cornfoot and J. L. Mair, requesting the name of J. Heappey be placed on the rate roll for sections 143, Halcombe, and 1 and 2, sub-divi-sion F.— Alteration agreed to. From W. J. Cornford, asking to be allowed to cross the ferry at the Lower Gorge without payment. From G. E. Little, manager for C. Pharazyn, protesting against metal being taken from pit at Taonui as it was endangering fence. From Clerk Feilding Borough Council, account for £6 1 4s sd, thia Board's share of licensing expense?. — Account passed. From R. S. Abraham, suggesting the present punt at the Lower Gorge ferry should be replaced by one with a lighter draft as it would be useless and dangerous during summer. From E. E. Shere, drawing attention to the bad state of the road in front of Mr Anderson's property, Bunny thorps. — Clerk to ask Mr Anderson to trim trees as provided by section 135 of Public Works Act, 1894. From J. Wilson, asking permission to erect a fence on road to protect live fence — Permission granted. From Mrs S. Tilsley and T. Taylor requesting change of names on rate roll from latter to former for section 1, Ashurst. — Agreed to. From J. A- McCrea, drawing attention to alleged damage to his property by storm water from three culvertsWarden Pujkiss and the Engineer to inspect and have matter attended to. From G. E. Little and F. Thompson, requesting alteration of name on rate roll from former to latter for sections 2, 3 and 4, S.D. J,— Agreed to From P. Scheldt, offering to purchase 500 ft of second baDd timber.— To be dealt with by Warden Pearce and tbe Engineer. From A. Goldfinch and T. Shortfall, requesting alteration of name on rate roll from former to latter for section 13 ( S D. J.— Agreed to. From District Engineer, stating it was the intention of Department to replace spans at Northern end of Aorangi bridge with two 60ft spans and two 15ft spans and protect abutment with stones ; also, asking for plan of proposed road to combine traffic and road bridge at Kakariki. From C. Jansen, offering to purchase second band timber.— To be dealt with by Warden Pearce and the Engineer. From J. Jepson offering to purchase second-hand timber. To be dealt with by Warden Pearcs and the Engineer. From G. Foster, ranger, enclosing list of cattle impounded by him. From J. Cotter, stating he intended fencing main road through his property and asking to be allowed to leave gates across road for eighteen months until fence was completed ; also, askinp permission to leave gates on cross road dnring pleasure of Board. Resolved. Tbat the Engineer be instructed to bar* the " lawyers " cnt down on the Spur road from Ryan's corner to the Spar road bridge, Colytoo. Resolved, That iv reply to Mr Little re metal at Taonui, as it is difficult to obtain metal at Taonui it will be aeces* sary for the Board to take action under Public Works Act 1894, section 110, clause 11, and that Mr Little be requested to appoint a day to meet Warden Pearce and Engineer to choose site. Resolved, Tbat as a wooden bridge has collapsed on the main road to Feilding from Ashnrst, tbat in lien of timber, snper-structare in restoring, concrete walls be ereoted. Resolved, That the arrangement made by Warden Pearoe with Mr Procter xc compensation for fence be approved, viz., £1 and pipes for a culvert. Resolved, Tbat tbe clerk of the Road Beard and Warden Ramble be authorised to receive contributions towards cost of erecting a pound in Ashurst the hats to be open for one month, and the Board undertake to erect the same if sufficient money be contributed. Resolved, on the motion of Mr Wheeler seconded by Mr Parkin, Tbat this Board is of opinion that a steam roller is required within these districts to economically make and preserye our roads ; and that the chairman and tbe motet be appointed to esquire into cost, and arrange, if possible, with the Ktwitoa Countj Council and the Feilding Borough Council to share in tbe plant, A special order was made with refer* ence to loan for work at Proctor's Hill. Resolved, That as Mr Cotter cannot fall in with the views of the Board in regard to the road through bis property, tbat he be given four months to complete his fencing, the road then to be thrown openAccounts were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
