Farewell Social at Fowlers.
0 Last evening an enjoyable social even ing was tendered to Mr and Mrs G Anyon who are leaving our thriving township. When it became known thai our popular townsman was about tc leave us, it was decided to mark in an efficient manner our sense of bis worth and tbe esteem in wbich be has beehold by one and all. Tbe large numbers who were present last evening and the many expressions of regret and esteem that were hoard on all sides should bo a lasting evidence to Mr Anyon that hit efforts to do his duty have not beer unappreciated. A very enjoyable even ing was spent in various games. Songs and musical items were given by Mrs Palmer and Messrs Barlow, Tortensei and Jenkins, wbich were much apprecia ted and heartily applauded. Afterefreshments had been banded round the chairman of the school committee called on Mr H. Tolley to voice the sentiments of thoße present which he did in a eulogistic speech mention ing his long acquaintance with Mi Anyou whom he had always founc possessed of estimable qualities. Mi Mclntyre also responded to the cal of Mr Palmer, and in a humerous speed conveyed to Mr and Mrs Anyon the gooc wishes of those present. Bis kindly ra marks regarding Mrs Anyon envokec hearty applause. Mr Mclntyre statec that it was the intention of Mr Anyoo'i friends to present bim witb a smal souvenir of his connection with the dis trict which would be handed to him ii I the early future. Mr Anyon in reply thanked those present for tbeir kindlj I expressions of good will, saying ahbo-gi \ he had not deserved all that was said still, he felt that he had always tried tc do his duty. He lamented the smal amount of Government grant receivec by the School Committee stating that i was totally inadequate, and he appealec to the parents and others to patronist efforts to raise funds for school purposes He felt that in Mr Mclntyre they hae one of the most conscientone of teachers The party separated at a late hour aftei spending a most enjoyable evening Three cheers were given for Mr and Mn Anyon. __ __________________
