Hawke's Bay ■ - 4,242,547 and 4,207,070; increase, < 54,522. Wellington and West Coast-- < 4,069,967 and 4,309,075; increase, 289,112. < Marlborough and Nelson—Bßo,B63 and ' 932,914; increase. 43 051. Canterbury ' aud Kaikoura—s,l2l,39B and 5,196,712; ' increase, 75,314 Otago-3,995,496 and 4,022,441; increase, 26,945. Total— ' 1896, 19,138,493; 1897, 19,629,602; m- ' crease, 491,109.
