Ashurst Notes.
o [from our own correspondent.] Mr J. Williams, of the Masonic Hotel, baa decided to supply a long felt want in the shape of a public hall at Ashatst, wherein meetings of the public and private, concerts, dances, etc., can be held. The erection of the building com mences on 'Wednesday next and it will be 66ft by 80ft with a 12ft stage. It will b» finished in an up-to-date style and will be known as the Assembly Rooms. The vital statistics for the district of Asharst during last month were : Births 6 ; deaths, nil ; marriages, 1. The tenders are ont for the erection of the new Church of England. The tender of Mr Matheson, of Palmeraton, was accepted for the erection of a new meeting room. It is understood a start will be made towards the new Post Office this month. The examination of ths school children takes place on the 17th and 18th of this month.
