A Steamer on Fixe.

(Per Press Association) Gisborne, This Day. The steamer Aotea is on fire at Tokomaru Bay, She has been burning since three o'clock this morning. Latest. Tokomaru Bay is 45 miles distant, and information received states the Aotea lies half a mile from the shore, and is coyered with smoko and ■team. A ship's boat put off from Bhore at 6.30 this morning and took ofl several hands to assist in fighting the flames. The crew have nothing but buckets to work with. The pnraer states the £re started jn |he engine room and was evidently caused by igni« tion of naptha used for the oil engine. The efforts of the crew are directed to confining the flames to the after part of the ship. At 930 the fire was burning very fiercely and is not yet subdued.
