NEW ZEALAND v. NEW SOUTH WALES. ANOTHER BIG VICTORY. (Per Press Association.) Sydney, July 31. Rain fell at midday, but the afternoon cleared beautifully fiuo. The ground was rather greasy- Duncan, who has recovered from the injury to bis knee, captained tbe New Zealanders. It was decided at tha last moment to play three halves — Duncan, Allan and Humphries. The local team did not show anything like the same condition as they did on their victorious Saturday, although the alterations made were believed to have strengthened it. In tbe scrums the New Zealanders walked over their opponent?, Calnan played a magnificent game. Bayly, as fullback, worked well, but had his side in danger once or twice through a desire to run instead of kicking. In the second half the local men were kept almost continually on the defensive. Wickham mads several brilliant sprints, but Curley, the bero ot the second match, never got a cbance. Smith, tbe New Zealand greybound, was also down in his luckWithin a minute of the kick-off Allan and Roberts rushed tbe ball down to the line aDd the latter Bcored. Pauling failed to convert. After some play in the centre, the blues were again in difficulties and bad to force, but by a smart passiug rush they carried play to N.Z. quarters, and compelled Bayly to force. On resuming tbe New Zealandors were again pressed, but Roberts' defence was improvable. Eventually Calnan and Wells dribbled into tbe blues' 25's, wbcre Pauling obtained possession and passed to Wellr, and be to Calnan, who crossed the line. Humphries placed a good goal. After further play in both quarters, Humphries badly mulled, causing the local men to press hotly. From a scrum Fraser passed to Lane, who got over in tbe corner. Gardiner missed the goal. Tba blues were then kept on tho defensive till timo was called. In tbe second spell tbe New Zealanders again attacked botly aDd narrowly escaped a score on three occasions. Then the home team bad a spell of offensive play, until Pauling broke through from the line out and passed to Caluao, and he to Roberts, who made a splendid run from tbe local 25 and scored. Humphries played a beautiful goal. Shortly afterwards Al len got tbe ball from tbe scrum and passed to Roberts, who crossed the line. Humphries converted the goal. Then Pauling got over and took bis own kick, a splendid goal resulting. Tbe local men bad now practically collapsed, for almost immediately Humphries secured the leather from a scram and passed to Duncan, and he to Armit, the latter scored Pauling failed to kick the goal. Time was then called, Tbe New Zealanders were victorß by twenty-six points to three. The Rugby Union entertained the New Zealand team at a banquet tonight. This Day. The Herald considers New South Wales were never in the game on Satur day. There was absolutely no point in which the visitors were not superior. Tbe Telegraph says ifc was the severest defeat the local men evet sustained in an intercolonial match. The result emphasises the contention that in the engagement three weeks ago the visitors were done up befora entering the field.
