Potato Scab.
The following recipe for a solution to cure potato scab is said to have been tried, giving the greatest satisfaction. To make the solution, take one ounce of corrosive sublimate and dissolve in two gallons of hot water in a wooden bucket. Take a 40 gallon cask (a larger one is preferable where quantities have to be done) and pour into it 25 gallony water, into this pour the concentrated solution, stirring thoroughly. It is then ready for use, j and the cask will have enough empty space to accommodate a quantity of potatoes without over-running. The potatoes may be suspended in bags made of scrim in the cask and removed after soaking three to four hours. Successive lots can ba served in the same manner. After removal, the potatoes should be dried before cutting This process cannot be too strongly recommended, and, if persisted in, after a few year's the dreaded scale may be almost entirely eradicated. The closest care inu9t be observed while handling the solution, and also in the disposal of the vessels ~~ and liquid when the work is over. If any soaked seed remain unplanted, they should be burned, as the sublimate is a violent and deadly poison if taken internally by either man or beast.
