EXECUTION OF BUTLER.
HE CONFESSES TO FOUR MURDERS.
(Per Press Association.)
Sydney, This Day,
Butler was executed this morning. Death was instantaneous. He walked to the scaffold with a firm step.
Although the officials have refused any information it is nnderstood Butler has confessed. It is stated that as tbe result of a long interview with the Rev. Mr Lane, yesterday, the prisoner, who till then was callous, became penitent and confessed to murdering Preston, Weller and Burgess. It is also alleged when Butler was shown tbe portrait of Price, a young man from Victoria, wbo disappeared mysteriously, he recognised him and said be bad put him under. The unsatisfactory point about Price's case is tbe body was supposed to be his, but it was never clearly identified. It was found in the Parkes district, whereas Butler says he secreted the body in another locality.
