An extraordinary scene was witness!* on the Dumbarton road near Glasgow, the other \ve<k. Three young ladies whe werfc return u..g io the oity from Clydebank by bicycle suddenly fonud themselves confronting a horse galloping upon them. Turning aside to let it pass, they were terrified to discover that it had no intention of doing so. On the contrary, •s soon as it reached them it began to ihow its teeth and then tried to seize them. The ladies made an effort to run past it but were unsuccessful. The aninisi now Degan to chase them, and twice leapt over the bicycles which were now lying in the road, in its endeavours to catch hold of them. Thoroughly alarmed they daehed to the roadside hedge, aud through this two of them smccessfnlly scrambled. 11l luck befel the third, however. The animal caught ber bat ere she could get beneath, and tore it from her head, then tried to Jift her by the jacket. This being tightly fitting, how ever, it could not fix its teeth in it, and before it could do further injury some countrymen approached, drove it away with sticks, and took it home (o its owner, a neighbouring farmer.
