14 Years for Manslaughter.
(Per Press Association.) Napier, This Day. At the Supreme Court Fitzgerald and Wilson, convicted of manslaughter, were ■entenced to 14 years each. Judge Edwards said tbe crime was a most brutal one and the evidence undoubtedly justified tho verdict. The grounds of tbe recommendation to mercy seemed to be inadequate. In tbe interests of society it was necessary that the punishment should be severe. Tbe attack wan brutal and cowardly, and was committed by two very able-bodied men upon an old helpless man.
