Land Board Matters.

The monthly meeting of the Wellington Land Board was held on TV^'Jay. Present — Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (Commissioner) in the chair A. W. Hopje, M.H.R, J. Steven*, M.H.R., and H. A. Field, M.H.R. The following applications to obtain titles were granted :— J. Pollock, Oroua ; A. Holmes, W. Stretton, 3. Mcßean, Apiti. The following applications to transfer were approved : — H. Hinde, Umutoi, to R. O'Connell and A. Smyth. The following applications for laud were approved : — O. Oatberry and B. Whither, Umutoi ; A. S. Brooker, Hunter villo Village Settlement. With reference to complaints against the action of the Board in allowing section 186, block 16, Apiti, to be subdivided, it was decided not to alter the former resolution of the Board. On the recommendation of the Crown Ranger it was decided to hold an inquiry into a case in which evidence had been given at the S.M. Court, Pahiatua, that V. Haakell, selector of section 16, block 1, Mangaone, had sold the land to F. W. B. Greville for £50, the latter in turn having disposed of it for £200 to a third party. Mr Haskell wrote denying that he had sold his interest in the land for £50. The following cancellations of selectors' interests were rescinded : — W. Kellick, Ongo ; E. Y. Whishaw, Apiti j C. Clayton, Hautapn. It was decided to cancel the following persons' interests, as they had not complied with the regulations :— J. B. Roberts, J. Bryant and J. Moran, Hautapu. The Under-Secretary for Grown Lands wrote stating that there was no power to permit any redaction being made in the rents agreed to be paid under the " Wellington Fruitgrowers' Association " leases. It was resolved that the Commission be requested to point out to the tiurveyor-General that in a case at Makari effect had already been given to a petition from settlers in a similar position, and to suggest that the same course be pursued in this case. It was resolved to classify part of the Horowhenua Block as second class land.
