THE STOCK MARKET.
Mr Charles Carr reports:—Binningbam sale, Wednesday 30th ultimo - A full yarding of nheep came forward. Bidding at the sale was slack throughout, but with exception of two pens, all the sheep were cleared at fair prices, afterwards cattle were unsaleable. Feilding sale, Friday 2nd inst.— sooo sheep, mostly in small lots, were yarded, besides a few head of cattle. The result of the sale was satisfactory, althongh most of the business was transacted after the sale. The reserves throughout were i high and buyers preferred to wait till after the auction. Only "a few pens were turned out unsold. There was no de< mand for cattle. Rirmingba'm— Lambs, 4s 8d to 6s 9d ; wethers, 7s 6d to 10s Id ; ewes in lamb, 5s to 6s 6d ; 2 tooth ewes in lamb, 9s ; cull ewes, 3s 3d ; empty ewes, 5s to 6s lOd, Feilding— Wethers, 8s to 10s 6d ; fat ewes, 7s 6d to 9s ; ewes in lamb, 5s 9d to 6s ; lambs, 6s to 7s ; empty ewes, 6s 3d to 6s 7d ; springing heifers, £4 10s to if s ; weaner pigs, 6s 7d.
Messrs Abraham and Williams report :— At Pohangina on Tuesday a good yard full of stock came forward. There was a small attendance, and we succeeded in effecting a record sale, not a single hoof changing hands. At Palmerston yesterday we bad a large entry of sheep for the time of the year, and a few pens of cattle. Attendance was good, but the bidding was anything but spirited. We succeeded in quitting the bulk of the entry before the close of the day. Fat ewes held their own, but ewes in lamb receded in value. We quote : — Sheep.— Fat and forward wethers, 108 6d to 10s 7d ; others, 7s 3d to 8s sd ; prime fat ewes, 8s 6d to 8s 10d ; small sorts, 7s to 7s 9d ; owes in lamb, 6s 3d to 8s 2d ; store ewes, 6s 3d. Cattle— Three-year bullocks, iv forward condition, £3 9s ; 2£ year steers (low condition), JE2 7s 6d ; fat heifers (light), £2 17s. Pigs.— Porkers, 17s 6d ; slips, 12s 6d ; weaners, 5s 3d.
Mr Matthew Henry reports:— The sale for the week embrace Pahiatua and Palmerston. At Pahiatua on the 29th inst tbs entries of both sheep and cattle were fairly good, and the attendance was considerably over the average. At Palmerston yesterday the stock forward was somewhat equal to those advertised. Subjoined re the quotations :— Pahiatna - Cattle-2* year steers, £2 17s 6d ; 18---months to 2 year steers, £2 ss ; 18 mo. steers and heifers, £1 11s ; yearlings, £1 2s ; weaners, 12s 6d to 13s 6d. Sheep — Forward wethers, 9s 3d : fat ewes, 7s ; empty ewes, ss. Palmerston :— Cattle — 18- mo. to 2 year steen, £2 to £2 ss ; yearling steers, £1 6s to £1 10s ; 18-mo. heifers, in calf, £2 7s 6d ; dairy cows, £4 to £5 10s ; store cows, £1 7s ; wean«. ers, 10s. Sheep -Forward wethers, 9s 7d. Pigs— Weaners, 5s to 6s.
