Rangiwahia Notes.

Ffbom oub own corbespondent"]. Last Saturday morning Mr T. McKean met with a painful aocident while engaged in felling bush. It appears that hs had jnit mounted a jigger, axe in hand, wbiob he hfad not securely fastened in the tree, and on patting his fu.l weight upon the jigger it gave way with the result tbat his axe fell before him, lying on the ground blade upwards, on to which Mr McKean fell, striking the axe with his right arm. The axe inflicted a nasty gaih in his arm lengthways, the cat being over four inches long and right to the bone. He at once set off to Rangiwahia where his injuries were attended to by Dr Mnssen. He is now getting along nicely. Owing to the very inclement weather the Ratepayers Committee did not meet last Saturday. I nnderatand they have received a reply from the Minister of Lands re the generous expenditure of Government moneys on the ' Eimbolton road North during last summer. At present there seems a number of land speculators, or intended settlers, visiting this district. It it hoped they may find a good outlay for their moneys. The other day Mr R. Richardson met with a somewhat painful accident while engaged falling bush beyond Ruahine. The axe which he was using by some means glided away from where he intended to hit, and in ite passage struck Mr Bichardson a little above the ankle, inflicting a nasty wound. I understand he is recovering rapidly. The Ruahine football team were met on the local team's ground last Saturday by the Birmingham team, but owing to illness of some members of the Ruahine team, play was declared " off," but undoubtedly this illness would not have prevented play had the Birmingham team put in an appearance «t the proper time intt&d of 4.20 p.m. Under the present rules, Ruahine could claim the match, but they decline to do do so, and will at gome future date contest the same. The latest report* of Mr Theobald, states he is lying in the Wanganui Hospital still quite unconscious, and it is feared that his injuries may prove fatal, but Dr PoaoUy belieVes be may yet xwoyeii
