o Ihe Manchester Rifles paraded last night for inspection by Lieut Col. Newall. There was a very good muster. After some useful drill, Lieut. Barltrop was called to the front. In presenting tbe Long Service medal to Lieut. Barltrop, Col. Newall referred to the fact that tbe decoration had been honourably earned by sixteen years of close attention to his duties as a volunteer, and expressed a hope that he would liye for many years to wear it. Heald.. ii 14 34— Chamberlain's flour Messrs Bramwell's special, for most bull's eyes secured, was won by Sergt Aitken, and Mr A. Eade's, for most misses, was won by Vol. Hill. Captain Kirton's rifle (won by Sergt. Aitken) and binocular glasses (won by Vol. Wilson) were also presented. Before di 'missing the parado Colonel Newall said the officers of the several corps in Wanganui were endeavouring to arrange for a parade and sham fight during the Jubilee week to which the Manchester Rifles and other corps on the West Coast will probably be invited. There would be, he expected, train services to suit the convenience of tbe volunteers, but on that point nothing had as yet been settled. During the evening six recruits were accepted and sworn io, making eight who have joined this month. At tbe meeting of the corps to be held on Thursday nest, a proposal to hold a church parade on Sunday, 20th instant will be considered. At tbe range this morning under tbe supervision of Lieut. Col. Newall, assisted by SergeantMftjor McMillan, the following marksmen fired for the gold and silver medals lor the North Island : — Vol. Parker, Vol Wilson, and Sergt. Aitken. Vol. Parker made top score wiih 96 ; Sergt. Aitken 80 ; Vol. Wilson 7u. Sergt. Aitken'., ecore at JOO yards was exceptionally good — uiue bull's eyes mid a centre, counting 89 out of a possible 40.
