Scientific Researches in the Pacific.

o (Per Press Association.) Sydney, Juno 3. A small scientific expedition, under the leadership of Professor David, of the Sydney University, left for Funafuti Island in the Pacific, to continue the work of the expedition sent out last year by the Royal Society of London under Professor Hollas, to ascertain the formation of coral atolls. The previous expedition failed chiefly owing to the inefficiency of the boring apparatus. The cost of the expedition will be mainly borne by private subscription, the London society giving £200. The New South Wales Government supplied po wet fill boring plants and scientists' services free.
