Young Men and Boys' Club

A meeting of the Young Men and Boys Club was held last evening in the gymnasium, and was attended by about 30 members. The President, Mr J. Green wood, in opening stated that the meeting had been called to place tbe views of the committee on several matters clearly before the members of the club. He then gavo figures showing the state of the Club finances. The total expenses of the Club for the past nine months (including purchase of piano, fife?, e*c ) amount to £116 10s sd, the income from all sources reaches £100 5s 4d, leaving a debt of £16 5s Id. If the members of tbe club had paid their fees of membership there would be no debt as tbe members' roll shows exactly £16 as still owing. Tbe matter of the conduct of several members of the Club was referred to and regret expressed that the abase of privileges on the part of some half dozen members should have brought discredit on tbe institution, the majority of the members of which are very well bebaved and rule keeping. The committee are resolved, it was stated, to uphold discipliue, and to strengthen tbeir bands two new rule 9 bad been made. Tbe first is to tbe effect that members' fees must be paid in advance and every member receive a card of membership, nod the second authorises tbe members of tbe committee in charge of tbe rooms to demand sucb card at any time and expel all persons unable to produce tbeir card or are misbehaving themselves. Tbe intentions of the committee having been plainly expressed an appeal was made to the membern to assist tbe committee in their efforts to promote the interest and carry out tbe objects of the Club- It was an nounced that the club property— piano, gymnasium, apparatus, furniture, etc. — bad been vested in Messrs Greenwood, Wood, Haggitt and Harrison, as trustees, and they had signed a declaration of trust. A new roll is being formed and tbe names of all who are willing to keep tbe rules will be gladly received any evening.
