Pohangina Notes.
[from our own correspondent. f Daring the past week we have been deluged with rain, accompanied with very strong gales. Tba weather has been bitterly cold, and the ranges on Saturday were covered with snow. As this is the first snowfa.ll on theßuahine ranges this winter we may expect ths cold weather to continue for some time. The unmetalled roads around Pohangina are in consequence of the bad weather in a very muddy condition, particularly the bridle track leading from the township, which owing to its papa formation is very slippery. A big event will take place next week, when we are to have Archdeacon Fancourt among us. Although this is not the fir3t visit of the Archdeacon, (be I having paid as a flying one about eight - ' cen months ago) yet this will be the first time the Archdeacon has conducted a service in Pohangina. On Saturday sth June he will preside at a representative meeting of church members, to discuss matters relating to church business, and | on Sunday he will conduct a service and celebrate the Holy Communion. A couple of young swells who were out shooting on a Pohangina property on tbo 24th May happened on a five fat turkey, and seeing no one in charge of the bird quickly bagged it. The owner of the deceased bird recently informed me that ho expects that bird to be immediately replaced, otherwise be will take steps to preyent a repetition of the affair, judgipg by his excited remarks I should advise shootists to beware, or core may be freely shed. There was an extremely heavy fall of snow on the Ruahine ranges on Sunday uight. The bills wera covered right down to the clearing! and the sight was one of great beauty.
