Tbe senior shield match arranged for Saturday last between Palmerston and j Feilding did not eventuate, tbe former team uot putting in au appearance much to tbe disgust of tbe Feildiug players, several of whom live in tbo country, In the morning a wire was received from Palmorston asking Feildiug to agree to a postponement on tbe ground that tbe weather was too wet, but Feilding declined to consent as tbo weather was improving after tbo heavy rain on tbe previous day and night. However the Pahnerston players got tbo executive of the Union to postpone tbe match notwithstanding that the secretary ol the Feildiug club wired they would claim a default if Palrncr.-ston did not come up. One of the Palmerstou players put in an appearance, not being aware of the postponement. The following will represent tho Unionists in their match with Alhauibra (Paltnerston) on Weducsday next : Fullback, A. Eeade ; three-quarters, A. Toy, W. Baker, C Woolven ; live oigbtbs, J. In tbe junior cup match on Saturday Awahuri defeated Sandou, by 0 to 3 For the winners F. Stuai-fc and Martini scored tries, as did Puruell for Sandon. W. Mauds, F. Stuart, Ika, Dingau, Kerr and J, Bennett played well for the winners. While Williams (2), Purucll, aud Mclntyre were the pick of Saudon. Mr Mann officiated as referee, and gave every satisfaction. At Wellington on Saturday Melrose defeated Poneke by 9 points to nil ; and the Petone match resulted in a draw, each side scoring a try.
