PAKLIAMENT has decreed that New Zealaad shall excel any Australian colony in the numerical strength of her military contingent, and it is a foregone conclusion that her Majesty wili bo advised by the Secretary of State, the Hon. Joseph Chamberlain, to recriproa cate the unexpected extent of our loyalty by some recognition worthy of a devoted people, who have sent such a military force to demonstrate our warlike instincts and ability to aid Old England in the event of war. That recognition will be, without doubt, a title to the originator and tactician who has earned his proposals in the face of a hostile section of Parliament. No doubt Her Majesty will deem a mere knighthood too meiigro an honor for a statesman who has shown such Imperi* alistio exuberance.
