Cr Goodbehere said the amount claimed totalled an amount equal to 26 per cent of tbo total revenue received from licenses in the electorate, and the Feilding Borough's share of the cost would be L 34. It was perfectly monstrous to see some of the charges. Tbey might not be able to do much now but should enter a yery strong protest against a recurrence of sucb excessive charges. The other councillors concurred in the opinions of the Mayor and Cr Goodbehere and after several items for refreshments and horse feeds had been rejected as a protest the accounts were passed for payment.

The Manchester Rifles held a company parade last night, when Sergeant Aitken acted as instructor. A meeting of the Shooting Committee will be held this evening in the orderly room at 7.30 p.m. The Pleasant Sunday afternoon gath ■ ering will be held in Glasgow House on Sunday, and will be addressed by the Rev J. The Manchester Road Board, on the motion of Mr Purkiss and seconded by Bir Wheeler, have decided to request tho Rangitikei County Couucil not to expend any money on repairs to Onepuhi bridge as this Board was of opin iou that it would be throwing money away in erecting a temporary structure. At the meetiug of the Manchester Road Board to day it was decided to abandon tho proposal to erect a pile bridge at the lower gorge and to proceed witb the necessaty steps for erecting & cylinder bridge, the undermentioned local bodies to be asked to consent to contribute, tho cost of same to be apportioued as follows:— Manchester Road Board, one fourth ; oue fourth amongst the Fitzherbert and Mauawatu Road Boards, Pahiatua and Waipawa County Councils, Palmerston N. aud Woodville Borough Councils ; tho remaining twofourths to be provided by Government subsidy of £ for £.
