The Melbourne Baud Contest.

(Per Press Association). iNVERCAnoiLii, May 3. The Garrison Band returned from the contest in Melbourne this evening. They had a warm reception. The Mayor addressed them and congratulated the bandsmen on the measure of BUCceßa achieved under adverse circumstaDes. It appears tbat the members were nearly all prostrated on the outward passage and had oDly a few hours to set themselves up before taking part in the contest. They lost heavily on the first night's selection but equalled the winning band in the others and alto in the march.
