Local and General News. » The Kiwitea County Council meets on Saturday next. Mr A. N. Hayne has been appointed agent for the "Gem" and "Concert" roller organs'. Prior to commencing his stock sale to morrow Mr Carr will offer for sale a valuable farm near Rongotea, Mr W. Carthew draws attention in another column to several popular new books he has just received. On and after Monday next the Manawatu Standard will be published every eveuing in place of as a morning paper. The annual election of school committees throughout the Wanganui Education district will be held on Monday evening next. Additional entries for Messrs Abraham and "Williams' Palmerston horse sale are published to day, also entries for their uext Paltrerston N. and Colyton stock sales. Fortunately Byrne escaped without any serious injury. However, the difficulties have been removed and we trust there will be no further cause for complaint. A meeting of those interested in the formation of a second club in Feilding to be called the Cosmopolitan Club, was held at the Feilding Hotel last evening. Mr Bagnall occupied the chair. After so ne preliminary matters were dealt with a provisional directory was appointed to make arrangements with Mrs Hastie, and to draw up rules, etc. Another meeting will be held on Monday evening next, to be convened by circular. The Club promises to be a success, and it is expected the membership of the new Club will total about seventyfive members. On Tuesday last when William Hyde, a lad about sixteen years of age, the son of Mr .Tames Hyde, a settler residing at Birmingham, was out shootins? he. met with a nasty accident. By some means he stumbled and the gun fell out of his hand to the ground and the charge exploded, the shot striking him just about the hip and entering his breast. The force of the charge collected a quantity of his clothing in its course and had it not been for this fact the accident might have resulted fatally. Dr Mussen was sent for and extracted the clothing from the wound and the sufferer is now progressing as favorably as can be expected under the circumstances.
