THE STOCK MARKET. Messrs J. Mowlem and Co. of Woodville, report : — At our stock sals held on Thn^pday, 15th inst., the sheep yards were again crowded with sheep of good quality, all selling before the day was out with the exception of two pens of ewes — in all 94. One line of wethers entered did not come forward, and as they would have taken up the most of the cattle yards we had to ask intending sellers of cattle to keep their stock back till our special sale on Saturday, 24th April- We quote : — Sheep — Fat wethers, 8s 6d ; one line of 1046, which was rather too much into the Bomney, 7s 4d ; fat ewes, 6a ; 2-tooth breeding ewes, 6s 6<3 ; 2, 4, and 6-tooth, 6s 4d ; store ewes, to ss : shorn lambs, 4s 2d ; McMaster's stud ewes, 16s 6d. Cattle— Very few in. One pen of 30 2year steers, £2 11b; springing heifers, £4. Good demand for young cattle. Messrs Hunter and Nolan, of Auckland, report :— Horsefeed, grain, seeds — Maine has been brought forward in limited quantities, and has consequently advanced in value. Other requisites of the trade have been ample for requirements. We quote— Maize on wharf, 2s 8d bushel in trade lots, ex store, 2s lOd to 2s lid ; feed oats, 2s 6d ; seed oats, 2s 8d to 2s 9d ; oaten chaff, plentiful, from £2 5s to L 2 15s ton, prices ruled by quality and extent of line disposed of ; bran, £ii 15a to £4 ton ; grass and clover seed in fair demand ; cocksfoot from 5s 10s to 7s 6d bushel ; Poverty Bay ryegrass, 5s to 6s 6d ; Southern, 4s 6d ; local, 3s 6d to 4s. Horses have continued to be brought forward in large numbers and for those of a good stamp there has been a good demand at the previous week's values. A good many were submitted by auction on Friday, 9th inst, and competition was good throughout the sale, We quoteHeavy draught from £16 15stoL30; medium draught, Lll 10s to Ll5 15s ; light harness, L 4 10s to Lll 15s ; hacks, L 4 to Lll ss ; weeds, LI to L 2. Cattle : There has been a slight upward tendency in the value of stores, but no alteration in dairy or fat stock. Average numbers were brought forward. We quote -Ox beef, 16s to 17s 1001 b ; cow, 15s. Sheep were penned in limited numbers at Newmarket on Tuesday 13th inst. but there was no advance in value ; wethers sold at from 8s 6d to Us 6d ; ewes, 7s 9d to 10s 3d ; mixed sexes, 8s Gd to 10s 6d ; lambs, 5s 9d to 8s 6d ; store ewes, 5s 3d to 6s 6d.
