Cheltenham Rifle Club.l

A meeting of those interested in the formation of a Rifle Club was held in the Cheltenham Hall on Friday night. About 20 persons were present, Mr J. Bruce being in the chair. The chairman called on Mr Sanderson who had convened the meeting to give his views QQ tjZje osatter. JVtxr Sanderson sfca/fcecL that he had convened the meeting at the request of a number of gentlemen who were anxious to see a club formed in the district. He then gave some particulars as to the steps that should be taken and mentioned that he thonght that rifles could be obtained from the Government for £2 11s each. Proposed by Mr Templer, seconded by Mr Taylor, That a rifle club be formed at Cheltenham. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Spencer, seconded by Mr Niccolls, That a committee be formed to canvas for members, inspect the various ranges that may be available and make enquiries as to cost of arms and ammunition, and report at a meeting to be held on Saturday next. — Carried. The following were elected as the committee : — Messrs Adkins, E. Burrell, Jas. Barrow, Bruce, D. Davis, Evensen, Niccolls, Sanderson, Spencer, R. Taylor, and Templer. Proposed by Mr Niccolls, seconded by Mr Spencer, That Messrs Templer and Bruce be secretary and treasurer. Resolved, That Mr Evensen ascertain cost of arms and ammunition. Messrs Spencer and Mills offered ranges for the inspection of the committee. Proposed by Mr Spencer, seconded by Mr Barrow, That the subscription be 10s 6d per annum.— Carried. Twelve names were handed in as members of the Club. On the motion of Mr Spencer, seconded by Mr Templer, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Sanderson for his efforts in starting the Club.
