Manchester Unity of Oddfellows.
The Manchester Unity of Oddfellows now claims to be the largest friendly society in the world, and certainly its progress in recent years has been phenomenal. The adult membership of the Order stands at 751,167, an increase of 11,178 on the returns of the previous year. The financial returns show the capital of lodges to amount to £7,987, 875, an increase during the year of £256,261. The contributions from members amounted to £844,893, an average anuual payment of £1 2s B£d per member ; and the interest on invested capital came to £297,526, equal to an average contribution of 7s 11 id per member. The society paid in sickness benefits and death claims no less than £857,793— the sickness benefit paid showing an increase of £48,089 on the figures of the previous year. The total of the various funds belonging to the Order now amount to £9,041,545.
