Consumptives.
I Per Press Association] Sydney, March 18. A deputation of hospital directors today called the attention of the Colonial Secretary to the growing 'prevalence of consumption. It stated that over a thousand deaths are annually reported in New South Wales from this disease ; but this, however, is far short of the real death rate, and Victoria, Queensland and South Australia had even a higher ratio. The deputation urged the necessity for special treatment separate from public hospitals, aud suggested a commission of enquiry. The secretary favored a commission being set up, and promised to consult his colleagues with a view of immediate action.
