The National Bank scheme arrangement has been modified so that three directors will represent the proposed stcokholders on the Brisbane board, and two directors will represent the shareholders. The sugar planters are petitioning Mr Chamberlain to ask the British Government to take steps to protect them against the bounty-fed bcot sugar which i.s being sent by Continental countries to Australia in large quantities. They point out the competition against this sugar is reducing the price of the local article below the cost of production. Duriug the last thirty years the planters sunk over live millions sterling in developing the sugar industry in tho Colony. Adelaide, March M. Mr Barr Smith has presented auother £1000 to the Adelaide Public Library.
