Wesleyan Conference.
(Per Press Association.) Wellington, March 9. At the Wesleyan Conference the balanee-sbeet of the Contingent Fund showed an income of £1207 ; expenditure* £831. The levy for tbe year would be 3£ per cent, the same as last year. The Rev McNicholl and Mr Harris were re-elected treasurers. The report from tbe Theological Hall was read. The Rev Simmonds made the principal appeal for all students to remain at the Prince Albert College for at least three years. He thought the revelations connected with the examination of probationers were disheartening. The latter were on tho down grade and be urged tbe Conference to absolutely decline to call out men from the College before the expiration of the term unless under exceptional circumstances. It was resolved to keep the students at the College. The Rev. Morley moved that any candidate now received be placed on the reserve list with a view to entrance to the College on a vacancy occurring. This was carried and Messrs J. H. Haelam and P. Keall were received on these condition*?. The Rev. J. C. Chapman received permission to return so his circuit at Balclutha and to ieave New Zealand for England withm a month. The Rev. T. A. Joughin and W. Connell received permission to reside in England for a year, and the Rev. W. B. Marten was granted permission to visit England next year if suitable arrange* ments can ba made with hia circuit. The income for tho Home Missions was —Auckland, £528; Wanganui, £147; Wellington, £244 ; Nelson, £115 ; Canterbury, £453 ; Otago, £185 ; Birthday League, £93 ; rents and interest, £690 ; total, £2455. Expenditure, Maori Mission, £931 ; Home Mission stations, £410 ; Home Mission circuits, £1022 ; special, £202 ; general, £171 ; debit laet year, £122 ; total, £2*58. Thirty circuits bad exceeded their assessment, 22 raised the exact amount, while 47 were under. At the Wesleyan Conference an Auckland recommendation that the minister engaged in the Maori mission be appoint ted on the Conference of the Home Mission Committee was lost. The self denial week to raise £IQ&Q ia to commence on May 25th. The Reys. C. K. Garland, C. H, Laws, and W. Morley, witb Messrs Bassett, Ambury, and H. Barnard, will be a com. mittee to gather information, and take evidence concerning the West Coast Maori mission and report to the next con ference. There has never been such a golden opportunity for securing bargains aa that which now presents itself at the removal sale now on at the U.F.C.A.
