Charges Against a Publican.
o — {Per Press Association.) Nelson, March 8. Marion Aula brook, of the Shamrock Hotel, was charged with permitting dice to be thrown for " a shilling m and the winner shouts." Counsel for the defence contended that there was no case to> prove that throwing dice was an unlawful game, but the S.M. held that under a Statute of George II it was so held, and inflicted a fine of £2 and costs, the conviction to be endorsed on the license. On a further charge of allowing v prohibited person to be on the premises, though the defence alleged that they ordered him off and refused to serve him, a fine of £5 was inflicted on the same defendant.
