The voting waa Young f>B, Hogg 49, Paterson 48, Dr Chappell 39, Fraser 32, Vile 20. This is the third time Mr Young has been returned at the top of the poll. The report of the Palmerston North Gas Company shows a profit for the year of £1381, brought forward £'391. A dividend of six per cent was recommended, absorbing £1260 and leaving £513 to carry forward. Napier, March 8. Liberal response has been made to the Mayor's appeal for the Indian famine, a relief fund of over £160 baring been subscribed to date. Auckland, March 3. The Rev. A. M. McCallum, Presbyterian Minister, is dead. He had a stroke of paralysis a few days ago. The members of the New Zealand University Senate were entertained at a harbour excursion by the Auckland Professional Board. The liquor seized near Kennedy's Bay was brought by the police to Auckland. The Harbour Board are contemplating taking steps to build a residence for the Admiral commanding the station for use when visiting the port. It is expected the Government will assist the Board. It is also considering the expediency of providing a naval coaling depot available with a supply of coal in case of war. The enquiry also includes ascertaining what assistance the Admiralty and New Zealand Government would giye to the project. Pahiatua, March 3. A Land Board enquiry was held here yesterday into the Griffith and Bodmin case. Evidence was taken, and the Board decided to forfeit the section, but to protect Griffith's improvements up to the ranger's valuation, deducting the expenses. The Board stated that in similar cases in the future the improvements would probably be forfeited. The Board commented strongly on the whole transaction.
