THE CHAMPION STAKES.
Melbourne, March 8. The acceptances for the Champion Stakes are :— Fort, Valiaut, Bloodshot, Preston, Coil, The Officer, and Newhaven. Deeming him short of work, Hickenbotham has been sending Newbaven along strongly the last two mornings, and now he feels very confident of winning. Mr Cook also expresses confidence in The Officer, who he maintains was seri. ously interfered with in tbe Australian Cup, whilst Coil's admirers aver that the Champion Stakes will only be a repetition of the Cup race. Hova will be kept in reserve for the All Aged Stakes on Saturday.
