Pohangina Notes.

On Saturday last several members of the Pohangina Small Farm Association (No. 2) met Mr Cornfoot at the County office to consider a new loan proposal for part of the Pohangina Riding. The Engineer, Mr Sinclair, submitted a report, which was to the effect that ho had traversed the whole of the road lines in the proposed special rating district, and bad prepared an estimate of the cost of constructing the roads. He pointed out that in the late proposal, the estimates were too low, and no allowance was made for a bridge over the Beehive Creek, which will cost £240. The total amount of money required to form, metal and culvert the roads would be £5880. After carefully considering the loan proposal it was decided to raise £5880 under the "Loans te Local Bodies Act," and Mr Harper, the County Clerk, was requested to take the necessary steps. After disposing of the loan business, a general discussion on local affairs took place, and the opiaion was expressed that rating on the unimproved value would be very desirable. Our Councillors would do well to take this matter up and see if the present basis of valuation could not be improved upon. The Awahou settlers are to be congratulated on at last getting the Ferry Road metalled. This is a work which should nave been done years ago. The contract was let on Saturday last. Changes are of frequent occurrance amongst the farming community, the latest I have to record is that of the Messrs Browne Bros., who have mutually agreed to dissolve partnership, Mr Ralph Browne takes over Mr J. G. Browne's share of their farm of 700 acres. lam sure the settlers of Pohangina will regret this change, if it necessitates Mr J. G. Browne leaving the district, as he is a good local man and always to the front where the welfare of the district is concerned.— Standard.
