Wool and Produce Markets.
The N.Z.L. and M.A. Company report under date London, 10th February, 1897 :— ■ Wool— The sales closed firmly this day. Since close of last sales superior washed and scoured merino are per lb higher. Greasy merino superior and fine and medium greasy crossbreds are _d per lb higher. Coarse greasy crossbreds and greasy merino lambs superior are par to |d per lb higher. Greasy washed and scoured merino medium, and inferior, and fine washed and scoured crossbred are par to id per lb lower. Slipe, medium washed, and scoured crossbred, and greasy crossbred lambs are par, to _4 per lb lower. Other descriptions unchanged. The American demand is geod. The total quantity sold during the pant sales is 221,000 bales, of which 82,000 bales have been taken for the Continent, and 47,000 bales for America. It is estimated that 42,000 bales have been held over for future disposal. Tallow— Market has a downward tendency. The Continental demand has increased. Medium and inferior mutton tallow is in demand, but fine is neglected. Messrs Levin and Co. (Limited) have received from their London agents, Messrs Dalgety and Co. (Limited;, the following cable message, dated the 10th February :—" Wool sales closed firm, without further ohange. The total quantity of colonial wool available for sale (including old stocks) was 264,000 bales, of which some 98,000 bales have been sold for Home consumption, 88,000 for the Continent and 45,000 bales for America, leaving 43,000 bales to be oar. ried forward to next series. All good merino and crossbred wools are fully on a par with tbe closing rates of last series ; super greasy wools are par to 5 per cent higher, and the bulk of medium and inferior merino wools are sto 7 J per cent lower, The bulk ef crossbred wools are on a par with the closing rates of last series." Messrs Murray, Roberts and Co. have received the following wool market cablegram from their London house, Messrs Sanderson, Murray and Co., dated 10th February, 1897 :— Sales have closed a shade above opening rates. Prices are irregular, and since last advices best descriptions of wool bave deolined a shade ; 43,000 bales held over.
(Per Press Association.) Naplbr, February 12. Messrs Nelson Bros, received the following cable from the Colonial Consignment Distributing Company today:— " There is no improvement in the frozen meat market. Canterbury mutton baa fallen £d per lb. To-day's quotations are— Best Canterbury, B£d; Dunedin 'i\d ; Napier and North Island, 2_d. Christchurch, Feb. 12; At the wool salea to-day the prices were well maintained for all sorts exeapt merinos, which suffered a deoline of to _A par lb. Tbe catalogue was cleared except 562 bales, aome of which were afterwards sold privately. Tbe priess current were;— Merino, superior, 0d to 6jd; medium to good, ssd ; inferior, 'lfd to sd ; half-bred, auperior, 6sd to 7£d ; medium to good, 6d to 6_d ; interior, s|d to fifd ; croasbred, superior, 7d to 7£d ; medium to good, 5d to6|d; inferior, 4sd to 5d ; lambs, 6d to 6_d ; long wool, superior, 6£d to 7d ; medium to (rood 6d to 6|d ; inferior, 5 ijd to 6d; crossbred, pieces end bellies, good, 2d to 6J ; looks, Id to 3{d ; merino, pieces and bellies, good, id to s|d; locks, Id to 3. d.
