Wreck of the Neptune.
(Per Press Association.) Blenheim, February 12. The steamer Naptune, 44 tons burthen trading between Wellington and Blenheim came to grief to-day at tha bar of tha river leading to Blenheim. The ateamer attempted to cross tha bar about midday and striking on the bottom was washed down the beach for a distance of half a mile, bnmping heavily nil tbe way. Four passengers on board got on shore by means of a linn. There was a heavy sea and it is expected tbe vessel will go to pieces. Sbe carried a full cargo. There is no insurance on the ateamer, which is owned by a syndioatt. This Day. The Neptune became a total wreck during tbe night. The seaward side of the vessel has gone. Tbe remaining portion is fast breaking up and the seas are washing over her. AU tbe cargo has been sweps away, only a few cases of samples having been recovered. Tbe beach is strewn with wreckage for over a mile. The accident is attributed to a breakdown in the machinery while , crossing the bar.
