(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, Febuary 11. Frederick Stone, a resident of Port Chalmers, died suddenly on Wednesday night. At the inquest a verdict was returned that death was due to chronic alcoholism. It was stated that in four to six months the deceased went through a legacy of some £360, principally expended in drink. Febrnary 12. At 10.30, the time fixed for Ryley'B case, there were no Justices in attendance. Mr Carew, the Magistrate, has consented to take the case on Tuesday. At the annual meeting of the Women's Franchise League to-night, Mrs Hatton was re elected president. Janet Golder, wife of the licensee of the Mornington Hotel, was found dead in bed yesterday. At the inquest a ver diet was returned that death was due to fatty degeneration of the heart accelerated by excessive drinking. Invercargill, Febrnary 11. The jury in the case against David McArthur, charged with indecent assault and assault with intent, disagreed. In the civil case May v. McDonald, claim £300 for wrongful imprisonment, verdict was given for £1, and His Honor refused certify for costs. Christchurch, February 12. Bishop Julius left to-day for Sydney en route for England. Auckland, February 12. Tbo Waihi Co.'s returns for the 33 days ending February 6th show tbat 4140 tons yielded £13,877. The council of the Auckland Institute is spending £800 in the erection of new buildings for statuary and exhibits. Michael Kelly, lately a fireman on board tbe steamer Indraghiri, was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour for embezzling cargo. Dannevirke, This Day. Faulknor, who waa injured at Pin Piri sawmill, died yesterday. He leaves a wife and four children. Wellington, Febuary 12. Bishop Wallis leaves for England on April 17th, accompanied by Mrs Wallis, to attend the Lambeth Conference. The rains are damaging the crops in the Wairarapa and the rivers are in Wm. Onndy, one of the oldest settlers in Featherston, died of a paralytic stroke. The Minister of Marine is making en quiries as to the best means of improving the lighting to approaches to the Wellington harbour. The local branch of the Seamen's Union hold a special meeting, at which it is understood it will probably decide to join other branches in taking a ballot as to the acceptance or rejection of the Union Company's offer.
