(Per Presa Association.) Wellington, February 5. The destruction of deer by poaching is said to be very prevalent in the Wairarapa. The Acclimatisation Society is informed that in some outlaying dis tricts the animals are killed ont of pnre wantonness and in others to feed dogs, but have great difficulty in securing evidence sufficient to warrant a prosecution, This Day. The body of Chas. Bowden, drowned in the Manawatu on October 29th, was found 12 miles below Palmerston. Dunbdin, Febuary 5. Mr W, R. Cook was appointed sole official liquidator of the Walter Guthrie Company with full powera. The ap pointment was made at the instance of the Bank of New Zealand. The other side did not consent or object. Orders were made for the winding ap of the other three Companies. The Court was engaged the whole afternoon settling contributories in the Ward Farmers' Association. At the Board of Conciliation today the President stated that there was a chance of a settlement being arrived at in the dispute between the Seamen's Union and the employers, and an adjournment was made till Monday. Tbii Day. Mr Pinkerton, ex -senior member, was presented at a meeting of citizens with a cheque for one hundred and thirty ponnds. Auckland, February 6. Thoß. Bobson, labourer, died suddenly at Newton toad from rapture of the aorta. A preliminary survey was made to* day of the American burque Sea King, and a further survey will be made tomorrow. Considerable repairs will be needed. The executive of the Law Society have declined to call the proposed meeting which they were petitioned to convene to consider Mr Northcroffc, S.M.s transfer.
