In the last race Bert Castleton, who rode Lufra, was thrown and killed, the other horses galloping over him. Death was instantaneous. The accident happened as the horses went into the top stretch. A bruise was on his neck, where the horse had trampled on his head. It is supposed Lufra crossed her legs.
