TAKAPUNA MEETING.
A JOCKEY KILLED. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, February 3. The first day's racing in connection with the Takapuna J.C. Summer Meeting was successfully managed today in fine weather and a good attendance of some 4000 people. Results : — Handicap Maiden Plate, 1 mile — Admiral Hawke 1, Peerless 2, The Sharper 3. Time, lmin 48£ sec. Dividends, £5 and £4 15s. Handicap Maiden Hurdles, 1| miles — Hairy Legs 1, Glenlora 2, Reflection 3. Time, 3tnin 32s«c. Dividendss, i' 24 19s and £17 lls, Zoaiandia Handicap, 5 furlongs — Rex 1, Nightingale 2, Lufra 3. Time, lmin 5f sec. Dividends, .£3 Is and £3 9s. Takapuna Cup, H miles — Antare« 1, Fabulist 2, Nestor 3. Time, 2min 42sec. Dividends, £6 14s and £5 19s. First Handicap Hurdles, 2 miles — Aughadowey 1, Hukatere 2, Gipsy Prince 3. Time, 4min 4sec. Dividends, £4 19s and £5 135. Stewards' Handicap, 6 f nrlongs — Lillie 1, Porangi Potae 2, Lady Marion 3. Time, lmin 20£ sec. Dividends, £4 3s and £7 11. In the last race Bert Castleton, who rode Lufra, was thrown and killed, the other horses galloping over him. Death was instantaneous. The accident happened as the horses went into the top stretch. A bruise was on his neck, where the horse had trampled on his head. It is supposed Lufra crossed her legs.
