A petition if being prepared to present to the Premier, signed by the leading shipping and commercial men in Sydney, asking his co-operation with Victoria to provide a mail subsidy to the New Hebrides. The petition refers to the strong efforts being made to oust Australian interests in tb.6 New Hebrides. Tbo e|iort is a political one supported by a foreign nation and will culminate ia annexation by the destruction of Australian interests which hitherto have proved an effective bar.
