QUEENSLAND v. CANTEKBUKY. (Per Press Association.) Christchukch, January 8. The cricket match Canterbury v. Queensland, commenced today at Lancaster Park. The weather was perfect and the ground fast, but the wicket was very fiery and bumpy. Queensland, winning the toes, batted first, and totalled 188. Of these Jones played a fine and careful innings for 43, Bradley contributed 34, McGlinchey and Brynea 23 each, Cowley 17, Wilson 14 (not out), and Donahoo and Hitchcock 10 each. Bates and FronKish each secured 4 wickets and the lidding of the Home team very good. Canterbury's innings entered disastrously, T. Reese, Lawrence and Ridley, all being out with the total at 7. Then D. Reese joined D. Mans, and the pair played ont time without disaster, the score standing at 35 for three wickets at i the close. De Mans 19, and Reese 14. The attendance of 500 at ih9 start of play increased probably to 800 later on. The J play wi»s very slow throughout the day excepting when Brynes and Wilson were together. Sydwky, January 8. In the cricket match New South Wales v. South Australia, the latter in their first innings made 159. New t-'onth Wales haye lost I wickets for 110. Kelly (not out) 00, Noble (not out) 24. ____
