An Important Decision.
o At the Feilding S.M. Court thi3 morning Mr Standford, S.M., gave judgment in the case Police v Bert Champion, who was charged with having trespassed on the Feilding racecourse ou December 3rd last, after having been warned to leave. The case was heard at the December sitting of the Court, the evidence having been published at length in tbe Star. Mr W. A. Sandilands, who conducted the case for the prosecution, received judgment for the police while Mr L. E. Reade (on behalf of Mr Jellicoe), received judgment for the defence. Mr Sandilands asked that in view of the reflections cast on His Worship in connection with the previous similar case and others connected with the charge, that judgment should be reserved until tbe appeal case was decided. He knew tbe reflections were absolutely untrue. His Worship regarded them as frivolous and silly objections, meriting only contempt, and he was prepared to give judgment. His Worship then delivered a written and lengthy judgment. Defendant was fined LlO, with solicitor's fee £2 2s and costs. L The judgment will be published in full in to-morrow's issue of tbe Star. I Notice of appeal was given by Mr Reade.
