Gillie, the well-known light weight jockey, died at the New Plymouth hospital, last week. Ho contracted a lung com; laint some twelve months ago, and since; then he gradually got worse. The other day his condition became so serious that be was taken to the hospital. During his two years' residence in Tarauaki, Gillie was generally liked for his quiet unassuming manner, and his early death will be regretted by all who knew him. Gollan's Ebor, by Robert the Devil, won the Straft'ord Park Handicap Steeplechase, two miles, by three lengths.
